With its charity initiative “Wir für Düsseldorf”, the Klüh Group is setting a focus on inclusion and social participation this year. Altogether, 25,000 euros will be allocated to projects and initiatives in the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia that especially help senior citizens to play an active role in community life and strengthen their social connections.
Many people find their participation limited for various reasons – for example, due to health problems, decreased mobility or lack of access to social and cultural offerings. Older people are particularly affected here. The initiatives we support tackle this issue head-on, creating targeted opportunities for people to meet, exchange ideas and play an active role.
Frank Theobald, CEO of the Klüh Group: “Social participation is an essential prerequisite for quality of life and social cohesion.” Especially in old age, limitations can cause people to become increasingly withdrawn or feel excluded. So offers that promote social interaction, provide fresh impetus and encourage people to get actively involved are all the more important.”
The “Wir für Düsseldorf” jury – made up of Josef Klüh, Ahlem Sehili-Klüh and Wolfgang Rolshoven – has therefore decided to support the following initiatives this year:
- hallo nachbar! (vision:teilen – eine franziskanische Initiative gegen Armut und Not - e.V.) - a Franciscan initiative against poverty and hardship
- Franzfreunde (Franziskanische Sozialwerke Düsseldorf gGmbH) - an initiative of the Franciscan social welfare organisation in Düsseldorf
- Herzwerk (Deutsches Rotes Kreuz Kreisverband Düsseldorf e.V. ) - an initiative of the German Red Cross district association Düsseldorf
- Aktiv im Ruhestand (Deutsches Rotes Kreuz Kreisverband Düsseldorf e.V.) - an initiative of the German Red Cross district association Düsseldorf
- Seniorenschutzprojekt (Sportclub Düsseldorf e.V.)- a project for the protection of senior citizens of the Sportclub Düsseldorf
Social commitment in the region and beyond
Social responsibility is deeply rooted in Klüh’s corporate identity. It comprises the areas of economics, ecology and social affairs and forms the basis for the company’s sustainable practices. The initiative “Wir für Düsseldorf”, which has been supporting local projects for many years, is a central component of this commitment.
Another aspect of Klüh’s social commitment is reflected in the work of the “Klüh Foundation for the Promotion of Innovation in Science and Research”, which has supported numerous medical research projects since its establishment in 1987, with total funding in excess of 900,000 euros.
Yet another focus is on supporting children and young people to give them better opportunities for development. Klüh is regularly involved in projects such as the “wishing tree” campaign of the St. Barbara children’s home in Duisburg, the Düsseldorf reading festival and the Pacemaker initiative, which promotes digital education. The company has also been active in the fields of sport, art and culture in Düsseldorf for many years.
